Kilkhampton

Why has this site been created?

Its objectives and long term goals.

The Kilkhampton website, why it was created.
The Webmaster's (Dave Price) believed that his maternal Grand Father (John H Cornish) was born in Kilkhampton in about 1876. Unfortunately after three years of research he found that after all his grandfather was not the same John H Cornish that was listed on the 1881 census. (In fact he was born in Wells Somerset, the confusion occured because John Henry Cornish at some time between his birth and marriage changed his name from Henry to John.)

The webmaster visited Kilkhampton for the first time in the Spring of 2000, with just the ideal of finding John Cornish's father's  grave.  (But this mission was a complete failure). But it did start an interest in the village. Therefore in the following autumn he returned to photograph Underhill cottage where  it is thought that his Grand Father had spent most of his childhood.    These photographs were put onto the web, and within a few weeks he had received two eMails requesting information about the village. So a decision was made to create a (stand alone) website about Kilkhampton

The Webmaster has always shown more of an interest in 'Local History' than in 'Local Family History', so he decided to start a website about the History of Kilkhampton.

Since it was found that Dave's Grand Father did not after all come from Kilkhampton, the website will still continue as it is a very good excuse to holiday in a beautiful part of Britain.

The objectives of Kilkhampton website.
In time the Kilkhampton website will be a 'one stop shop' for anyone doing research whether local or family history about the village of Kilkhampton. The pages themselves may not contain the information they require, but the links should enable one to find all the information that is available on the 'World Wide Web' about Kilkhampton.

Long term goals of the Kilkhampton Website.
The long term goals of the Kilkhampton Website are still being formulated by the webmaster (any suggestions would be gratefully received ).
