We had just two
nights in Zakopane (arrived Monday 16th June departed Wednesday 18th
). We took a morning bus from Krakow bus station to Zakopane,
arriving just after noon. Strolled up the road from the bus terminus to a
small bar next to the information office, after refreshments and buying a
map of the town we ordered a taxi to take us to our pre booked
accommodation (Willa Giewont). After
unpacking, it was off to explore the town. It was just a short bus
ride into the centre of Zakopane. |

| Zakopane
consists of a long main street that runs down to a large open air
market that links it to the bottom of the funicular railway.
After exploring the Market we had planned on going up the funicular
railway, but were advised, by a local, that the next day would be a
better day weather wise to visit the mountain. Unfortunately we took his
advice.
The rest of the day we spent looking round
the town, before catching the bus back to our accommodation.

The next
day, after busing into town we took the funicular railway up the
mountain. The advice we were given the day before was incorrect; the
weather was dull and much colder than the previous day, by the time we
reached the top it had started to rain. Within a short space of time
the view disappeared under a blanket of thick mist. (please
see pictures)
We
found Zakopane to be a very pleasant place to visit, but very different
from Krakow. Two nights were just enough time for us, but possibly if one
visited the town in winter it would deserve more time.
