Prague

Unfortunately, due to flooding the train from Vienna to  Prague was diverted through Slovakia. But at the  only stop in the country the police, or was it the border guards, seemed to surround the train armed with sub-machine guns.
We found the journey pleasurable, the restaurant car served an excellent lunch (I had Brisket of Beef: wish I could find an establishment in the UK that could cook brisket to that standard).
We used public transport from the train station to the Stirka  Hotel but on arrival we were informed  that due to heavy rain some of the rooms had been flooded and that they had arranged for us to stay in another hotel nearer the city centre and they had organized a taxi.
Our new hotel was the Karlin  Hotel. Very pleased with the hotel - It was really more of a restaurant with some good sized modern rooms above.   The restaurant was excellent, it was frequented by locals - always a good sign.

Vltava River looking down from Nove Mesto

Up to Budapest and Vienna, for us, Prague was more relaxing because we had seen most of the sights on our previous visit.

On this visit we:-

  • Visited Nove Mesto, lovely place and almost free of tourists.
  • The castle -  12 noon for the changing of the guards.
  • Funicular Railway up Petrin Hill.
  • Visited the Opera House again  ( this time the American Bar, superb decor).
